STORY / GAMEPLAY You re Larry, a renegade cop on the trail of drug dealers, pimps, corrupted public officials and politicians and any other suspicious individuals you feel like gunning down. Using your fists and your gun (of limited ammo), you'll fight knife wielding hoodlums, bearded biker gangs and killer clowns who stalk the streets and subways with blades and baseball bats. The game's style reminds us of Double Dragon or Streets Of Rage. Dirty Larry is rather difficult though since it is hard to kill the enemies before they get you first either with a bullet or with any other weapon and thus your energy life meter is getting low easily. The bullets are your lifeline as much as your health is. No bullets in you gun means a certain death. Although you can use your fists (like in Double Dragon series), you will soon notice that this is not enough as you will always take damage when getting too close with the bad ones. The good news is that you can find energy power ups and ammunition in each stage but the bad news is that they are just a few! Note: In some stages, Dirty Larry looks like Technocop, an action game released for the ST and Amiga computers.
GRAPHICS / SOUND The graphics are good and have up to 32 colors on screen. All indoor and outdoor scenes are detailed (shadows in the alleys, lights rushing by in the subway, torn wallpapers and lots more), the scrolling is smooth and the sprites move quite fast. At times, the sprites might become a bit bulky and the animation slightly jerky, but this does not affect the overall gameplay. The sound is also good and utilizes the Atari Lynx's stereo capabilities. The game starts with a nice intro tune while there are several in-game sound effects with some of them pretty impressive (such as gunfire and grenade explosions)!
